Playing in the 2007 WSOP

It's that time of the year. It's time to get ready for the World Series of Poker. There are two ways to experience the World Series of Poker. You can either watch it on ESPN through a tape delay (they won't air the series until after its completion) or you can witness the phenomena live and direct. Heck, you can play in the 38th annual event. What other world class sporting event gives you the chance to participate as a player? The WSOP has opened its doors - it's up to you to walk through.

Ways to Enter

All in all, there are three ways to enter the WSOP. You can directly buy-in to any of the 55 events offered at this year's series. Or, you can win a main event seat through a free roll or a satellite tournament. Buy-ins are the easiest way to enter any of the tournaments. The buy-ins range from $1,000 to $50,000, with the No Limit Texas Holdem Main Event buy-in staying steady at $10,000. There will be more players entered in the main event than all of the other events combined. Many people can not afford the ten thousand dollars it cost to enter the main event. These are the players who look to satellite tournaments.

Direct Live Action Tournaments

There are two types of satellite tournaments that can earn you a seat at the WSOP 2007, an online satellite, or a direct live action satellite tournament. Online tournaments have been extremely popular in the last couple of years. They have been directly responsible for the high number of entrants in the main event. With recent anti-gaming laws in the U.S., it is not clear what the future will hold for the online community, but the live-action satellite tournaments surely remain.

Live action satellite tournaments are offered throughout the year. The WSOP sponsors many satellite tournaments that will award the winner a seat in the main event. Also, look to local casinos and card rooms for live-action tournaments that offer a seat in the main event of the WSOP. To win the ten thousand dollar buy-in is quite an incentive; although, the competition will be fierce. Still, playing in a live action tournament is extremely beneficial because it serves as great practice for the main event. The Texas Hold'em Main Event will be played live, not online. There are obvious differences in playing online versus playing live, including how to read the other player, and how to conduct yourself so as not to give away any unnecessary reads. Practicing in a live-action tournament is absolutely necessary for anyone who plans to play in a WSOP event.
